Australia Diary May 2002

Both The Matrix and the shortly to be released Matrix II were filmed in Sydney. You may recognise certain parts of the movie if you wander around the city. The 'Woman in the Red Dress' scene, for example was filmed in Martin's square. I saw some others later that evening...

We had a major party today to mark me leaving Sydney (I fly up to Darwin on Sunday). We met in the circular quay bar at the customs house (opposite the ferry terminal at circular quay). Outside the bar is part of the 'Mooving art' exhibition. I'm sure that the pictures will adequately explain the pun... Jersey Jewelby Paul Evans with Cowmen Miranda by Lee Pennington in the background Udderly Gorgeous by Monique Azure. These cows are scattered all over the city at the moment. From here, we moo-ved on to the Orbit bar. Now you've got to promise to keep this place a secret as very few non-Sydneysiders know about it. It's on the 47th floor of the Australia Square building. The bar moo-ves round, rotating one full revolution in an hour, which is very bizzare if you've had a few beers. It does give you one of the best views over the Sydney skyscape...

Those Matrix buildings...

Take a look at the shot again. The AAPT building is where Mr Anderson aka Neo worked. The squat building to the bottom left is the one that the helicopter 'crashed' into in the movie - the rescue of Trinity and Morpheus by Neo was onto the building next door closer to us (it's too dark to really see it properly).

Just behind the Anderson building is where the scene of Morpheus and Neo dangling from a helicopter was filmed. I know this 'cos both Jen and Em were working in one of the buildings that they flew over!

Hot off the press - and before the film's even released, but there will be a scene that *may* feature the Anzac bridge (the pointy one). The bridge was closed a few weeks ago for a day whilst filming took place. They apparently built a building frontage out of containers - and then blew it up! Look out for it when the film comes out.

To tomorrow
