South East Asia (Laos) Diary 29 November 2001
Home

The fridge dropped us off at a bus station just shy of the border at five o'clock in the morning. It was a taxi and bus ride from there across the border to Vientiane, the capital city of Laos.

We toured the town on foot in 2 1/2 hours. There are a few wats to see (a small community based around a temple), the river and another couple of miscellaneous sites to see, but little else in terms of orthodox sites. Come to Vientiane for the food. Laos used to be a French owned colony and its capital city has evolved into quite an impressive culinary centre with Thai, Indian, French and Italian restaurants on seemingly every street. The town has a wonderfully relaxed vibe compared to Bangkok, I just wish that I had the time to stay, chill out and get fed here, but tomorrow it's off up to Vang Vienne...

To tomorrow...
